BSc. Fashion Design is a 4-years full-time, university-affiliated degree programme that aims to create a responsible designer who will serve the country and society by innovation, education, technology and research. Students will be expected to showcase their collection of designs at fashion shows organised by the college at the end of each semester. This degree is affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba.

DIPLOMA PROGRAM

Professional Diploma In Fashion Design

INTRODUCTION 

Professional Diploma in Fashion Design is a full-time two-year programme that focuses on the emerging area of ‘design necessity’. This programme is also suitable for experienced designers who are looking at upgrading their skills. At the end of each semester, each student will showcase his or her collection in a fashion show organised by the department. This presentation is compulsory for getting the diploma.
Upon completion of this Diploma, students can opt for a two-year top-up to get the Bachelor’s degree in Fashion Design at SFD.

  • INTRODUCTION 

    This course introduces students to the principles of pattern making, grading, including manual techniques of chart and stack grading. The course uses Reach CAD, computerized digitizing, grading, and marker-making system. This course also introduces students about the large scale production using Computer aided Manufacturing (CAM) and various process documentation.


    COURSE CONTENTS/MODULES

    UNIT I

    Introduction to computer concepts of CAD/CAM in Pre-Production and Production Department in Fashion/Apparel Industry: CAM in Garment Manufacturing. Complete pattern design system in preparation for grading, marker making and pattern manipulation. 


    UNIT II

    Computerized pattern making: Computerized production pattern making; Development of Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Patterns for staple garments. Computer aided manipulation of pattern pieces to create individual styles; Operation of garment CAD software. 


    UNIT III

    Computerized Pattern Making: Development of designs using block, dart Manipulations, Slash & spread, Pivot method. Creation of supplementary patterns; pocket, collar, plackets, waistband etc.

    Pattern Grading: Increment & Decrement of Pattern sizes. Proportion of size sets. Graded Pattern test fitting of patterns. Digitizing the Existed patterns using digitizer.

    Marker Making: Development of size set patterns for Marker planning. Arrangements of patterns; manual & auto technique. Buffer clearance, over lay of patterns. Arranging and re-arranging of Marker for efficient fabric Utilisation.

  • INTRODUCTION 

    This course is designed to provide competencies in various techniques of textile design including fabric printing and dyeing which are essential to enable students to create better designs. Students are expected to learn various methods of fabric printing including block printing, direct printing, screen printing, stencil printing discharge printing, resist printing and resist dyeing. Students can use the printing skills learned during the program to start their own commercial textile design and printing work. Course also provides practical skills in preparation and usage of multi-colour screens for repeat and mirror patterns, use of wax for fabric printing, Batik dyeing and printing, different forms of tie & dye printing techniques, Japanese printing technique of Shibori and other creative printing techniques.

  • INTRODUCTION 

    This course introduces students to create designs in wholesome digital environment, to enable the students to designer photo-realistic fashion illustrations, rendering of different fabric textures using the Reach Fashion Studio software. RFS is a multipurpose software for design, sales, sampling and printing departments. Packed with features REACH Fashion Studio enables the students to learn 2D, 3D Designs with product visualization, texture mapping, color reduction and cleaning, design and repeat, color ways, color communication.

    UNIT I

    Introduction to CAD, CAM in Fashion and Apparel Industry. Applications of CAD, CAM in fashion designing.


    UNIT II

    Fabric/ Textile Designing: Development of wove, knitted, printed fabrics samples. Importing & exporting of patterns to the library. Application of Developed samples to the sketches. Creation of Textured fabrics. Pattern Repeat types: Brick, half brick repeat- Drop/ Halp Drop repeat, random repeat Diamond repeat, Mirror, One way/ Two Way repeat.


    UNIT III

    3D Product Visualisation: development of design using RFS. Creation of designs using rendering tools with different colours, surfaces and patterns.

    Texture Mapping: Develop Designs on a model/ Real time model. Scanning of Preliminary ideas: Manipulation of materials/fabrics on Models in real time draping effect using intuitive tools through texture mapping. Previewing the developed & manipulated fabrics in 3D.


    UNIT V

    Colour Reduction, Communication: Developing/ scanning of existed picture / fabric. Colour separation through Colour reduction. Colour personalisation using RGB & CMYK hue developments.
